  • Harriet Maria Smith used to accuse him of being the "upper crust" of Southern society in contrast to her more humble parents (Christian Eber Smith and Henrietta Alethia Anderson).
  • He was a Presbyterian minister in North Carolina for 18 years.
  • He was a pastor in the Southern Presbyterian Church in Austin, TX for 25 years.
  • While serving the Austin church he was instrumental in planning and erecting the educational building.
  • Retired to Palestine, TX to a smaller church for three years in his last years
  • Baptized grandson William Maynard Minter in his last years
  • Was the author of Travel Letters from Palestine and the East written in 1910 and chronicling a trip through the middle east.
  • Graduated from Davidson College, NC in 1892.
