Biographical Information

  • Was a farmer
  • Philo was also in the Vermont Legislature five years, and selectman twelve years.
  • At the time of his death he had forty-four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, three grandchildren having died previously. Their immediate family had remained entire until the day of their goden wedding, on which day their daughter, Emma C., died in California.

  • Almost all sources show wife as "Eliza", but the sources that have parentage info for Eliza give a full name of Elizabeth, so using that name.
  • Some sources give birthplace in Highgate, VT rather than Weybridge
  • This is a DIFFERENT Philo Jewett than the one described here although there is almost certainly a relationship (although I have not investigated it, both familys spent time in Weybridge.)
