Biographical Information
- Was patented 130 acres of land bordering the Schuylkill River in Coventry Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania in 1749
- Moved to the area of Waynesboro, PA after transferring the property above to his son Johannes Steiner Jr, but later returned to Chester County due to the depredations of the French and Indian War.
- Lived in Antietam
- Was potentially instrumental in inducing Benjamin Light (his son Johannes Steiner Jr's wife Anna Light's brother) to move to Maryland.
- In 1767 he obtained a court judgment against Benjamin Light (his son Johannes Steiner Jr's wife Anna Light's brother) for "183 pounds sixteen shillings Currency and ten thousand pounds of Tobacco". The cause of this legal action must have been a crop loan that was not repaid. The time that the loan was made is not indicated so that we can only speculate as to whether the sale of personal belongings was connected.
